Lakefield Co-Operative Nursery School (LCNS) is a parent co-operative, which means that families are actively involved in the preschool experience. Families work together to run the school as assistant teachers, administrators, fundraisers, and the maintenance crew. Together, the families of LCNS have been successfully running the school for over 48 years!

Children attending do not have to be toilet trained.

We offer 2, 3 and 5 day morning programs.

LCNS provides a positive and stimulating environment for children that enhances his or her level of social and learning development. Through play experiences and guidance by a specially trained teachers your child will be exposed to situations that will stimulate:

• curiosity, initiative, and independence
• self-esteem and decision making capabilities
• interaction with and respect for others
• physical activity that develops gross-motor skills
• fine-motor development

Meet our teacher!

We welcomed Sonya Friesen to LCNS as our supervisor and teacher in August of 2019. Sonya brings with her 8 years of childcare experience. She believes that nursery school is a place for children of all backgrounds to come together, and that play is how they learn best. Her enthusiasm for early learning is evident in her caring interactions with the children.

Sonya is a registered Early Child Educator, and has a B.A. She looks forward to meeting you and your child!

More about the co-operative experience

PARTICIPATE IN TOY CLEANING DAYS

If you are enrolled in the two or three day program, you will participate in two toy clean evenings and if you are in the five day program, you will participate in three toy clean evenings - throughout an entire school year. They take around two hours per evening. Parents will be given an opportunity to sign up for the dates at our Registration Night in September. Another parent, or someone on our emergency list, can cover Toy Cleaning Days for a nominal fee.

PARTICIPATE IN FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES AND COMMITTEES

Fundraising allows us to cover operating expenses and also buy special items for the school. We have a variety of committees to ensure that all areas of the School run smoothly. There are approximately four campaigns each school year.
